The inner workings of a honey bee hive are revealed in the Museum’s glass-fronted hive display. You can see the queen laying eggs, attended constantlyby her offspring. Inside the cells are larvae, feeding on worker jelly that isdelivered by nurse bees. As they age, bees perform different jobs such as wax-building, carrying water, or guarding the hive. The oldest bees go out to forage and can be seen waggle dancing – a special movement that indicatesto their sister bees where the best food sources are located.
