Schools and Learning

School Visits

The Museum is an inspiring setting for learning, offering a range of fun and informative hands-on sessions, and online resources.

School visits are up to two hours long and include a 45-minute session (handling workshop) and a self-guided trail in the Museum. Sessions involve groupwork, discussions, and problem-solving activities based on handling Museum specimens, and are linked to the national curriculum.  Each is accompanied by a downloadable session outline, including learning outcomes and pre- and post-visit activities. Sessions are very popular so must be booked well in advance. Many of our sessions have been adapted so that they can be developed as live digital sessions in the classroom. To find out more about our digital sessions, email education@oum.ox.ac.uk.

Schools are welcome to visit without participating in our education programme, but must still book their visit in advance.
